Feature Friday: 10 Vehicle Vinyl Wraps For The 5th Gen 4Runner

Dark Bronze Vinyl Wrapped 5th Gen Long Travel 4Runner With C4 Front Bumper & Prinsu Roof Rack

Inspiration For A Unique Exterior Look For Your Build

Welcome back to another Feature Friday! If you missed last week’s FF, we looked at some overland/off-road trailer setups that were suitable for the 4Runner to tow. This week, we are taking a look at 10 uniquely vinyl-wrapped 4Runners. These custom designs truly stand out both on the trails and on the road.

Why Wrap Your 4Runner?

Black Camo Wrapped 5th Gen 4Runner

Let’s start with the obvious reason why you would wrap your 5th Gen 4Runner – you can literally change the entire color/appearance of your rig. With thousands of colors across multiple brands of vinyl you can choose from, you can truly make your 4Runner unique. Every color from Matte Grey to Bright Blue and everything in between is possible thanks to vinyl automotive wraps.

The second benefit to wrapping your overland/off-road rig is the added paint protection. Adding a vinyl wrap on top of your 4Runner’s existing paint can significantly prolong the life of your OEM paint by adding a physical protection layer. This layer takes the full brunt of the inevitable pinstripe beating that many trails leave behind.

Vinyl wraps are also great if your paint is already worn out and you are looking for a more economical option to bring some life back to your rig, rather than spending a lot of money on a new professional paint job.

On that note, wrapping a vehicle typically doesn’t come cheap, at least from a reputable shop. Some wraps featured below are priced upwards of $4,000, including professional installation. The DIY route, however, can be as low as around $400. At a fraction of the cost, electing to wrap yourself can be appealing if you have the time and patience.

The overall cost will vary based on the quality of the vinyl, shop rates, and the level of complexity you desire. The level of complexity you desire should last 5 to 7 years, even with trail abuse. After this period, most vinyl wraps will start to crack and require replacement.

What Do You Like About Your Setup?

I like that it makes the 4Runner stand out from all of the regular colors. With vinyl, you can choose any color you want and be different. Wrapping your 4Runner protects the factory paint from pinstripes that can occur on the trail. The con to this is that if it scratches, the vinyl can potentially get cut. The last wrap I had only lasted about 3 years.

What Do You Like About Your Setup?

I use my 4Runner daily, whether on the trails, at an event, to and from work, or taking my family to go camping.

This wrap not only offers protection off-road on the trails and in the forests, but it also protects my paint while on the beach or in parking lots. The topo design adds a level of uniqueness to a vehicle that is found on nearly every street corner. The hood wrap eliminates the infamous sun glare that hits the hood scope in just the right light.

While on the highway and on the trails, the vinyl-wrapped rear windows keep the back of the vehicle cool for my kid and pups.

What Do You Like About Your Setup?

There are a lot of cars out there with single-color basic wraps, but this wrap isn’t one of them. This is truly a one-of-a-kind wrap with a lot of finite detail and meaning to it.

The entire truck is wrapped in Avery Dennison’s black material and has a smooth, almost velvet-like feel to it. On top of the wrap, the driver and passenger sides feature a unique Polynesian custom art design created by our tattoo artist, @art.of.luta. The design holds a great deal of meaning, incorporating a lot of our family history into each of the symbols used.

At first glance, people might think it’s just another tribal design, but this isn’t the case. People also don’t realize that the design follows the Toyota Tri-Color or Tri-Stripe design as well. During the daytime, it appears to be a subtle gloss black design over a satin black finish. At night, when the lights shine on it, the black reflective vinyl reflects whatever light hits it, making the design glow.

The cherry on top is the black textured camo wrap on both the front and back valances. You won’t see another wrap like this.

What Do You Like About Your Setup?

I like that the wrap protects the paint underneath from pinstripes when on the trail. Another thing I like about the wrap is that it completely changes the vehicle’s appearance, yet it is not permanent, allowing me to touch it up instead of trying to paint-match and blend the entire vehicle or change colors whenever I want. I did the vinyl wrap myself and don’t recommend that at all.

Matte Olive Green Avery Dennison Vinyl Wrap

Wrap Details

  • Color: Matte Olive Green
  • Film Brand: Avery Dennison
  • Wrapped By: Lucid Wraps in Colorado

What Do You Like About Your Setup?

To start, my 4Runner was white. Although white is a great-looking color, there are a lot of white 4Runners on the road, so I had to wrap it.

This has always been my dream wrap color, but I also always told myself that a wrap was one of the very last things I would do to my rig. After getting my 4Runner built to my liking, I reached out to Jake at Lucid Wraps! If you are in Colorado, you need to go to him, no questions asked!

A wrap is also a good way to protect your factory paint job from that nasty trail rash! I hope to get at least 3 years out of my wrap, and that should be possible with proper maintenance.

In my opinion, the Matte Olive Green color contrasts well with the orange accents – it was a no-brainer for me!

3M 2080 Gloss Black Rose Vinyl Wrapped 5th Gen 4Runner

  • Color: 2080 Gloss Black Rose
  • Film Brand: 3M
  • Wrapped By: DIY

What Do You Like About Your Setup?

I like my wrap because it was a cheaper alternative to a full repaint. With a wrap, there are more color options, and it protects the paint from trail damage. Wraps also make a build more unique, as there are countless colors to choose from, so you can truly make your rig your own!

I DIY’d the wrap on my 4Runner, so the cost was significantly cheaper than taking it to a shop, which makes me love it even more! All in, it cost me around $800.

Satin Key West 3M Vinyl Wrapped 5th Gen 4Runner | Tiffany Blue

Wrap Details

  • Color: Satin Key West
  • Film Brand: 3M
  • Wrapped By: Wrap Hive – Kalispell, MT

What Do You Like About Your Setup?

One word – protection. When I first got my wrap, the only thing I could tell people was that “it will protect my new paint”. Little did I know how true that actually was. Every rock ding must go through the wrap if it wants to get to my 4Runner! Also, as you can tell, there is a pop of color.

Additionally, I love being able to effectively show people that it’s okay to be unique and do what you want! Colors can have powerful meanings! No matter what anyone tells you, do what’s right for you! The entire wrap, including installation, costs around $3,500.

Matte Metallic Charcoal Grey Avery Dennison 5th Gen 4Runner Wrap

Wrap Details

  • Color: Matte Metallic Charcoal Grey
  • Film Brand: Avery Dennison
  • Wrapped By: CVC Wraps – @cvc_wraps

What Do You Like About Your Setup?

I like the appearance of the matte finish, especially in low light. It is similar to the magnetic grey underneath, but without the glare that reflects into it from the surrounding environment. I also like how the metallic provides variation in the tones depending on the lighting throughout the day. It gives a unique appearance that complements well with the other exterior aesthetics.

Out the door, I paid $3,000 for the wrap with installation.

  • Film Brand: 3M
  • Wrapped By: DIY

What Do You Like About Your Setup?

One of my favorite things about wrapping my 4Runner is how unique it now looks due to the color change. I think people pass up this color because it might be a bit too loud for them, but it has so much personality in different lighting and a lot of ability to DIY, making this one of my favorite custom additions. With the wrap and some tools, I’m at about $400, which isn’t bad at all!

Avery Dennison Elite Black Camouflage Wrap On 5th Gen Toyota 4Runner

Wrap Details

  • Color: Elite Black Camouflage
  • Film Brand: Avery Dennison
  • Wrapped By: Lucid Wraps

What Do You Like About Your Setup?

I wanted to change my white 4Runner to something that suited my lifestyle a little more. I love that it defines my personality as well as blends in with my surroundings, while also blending in. In addition, I love how unique it is and the many compliments I receive on it. Protecting the paint job is just a bonus.

I think it’s important for people to realize that prices can differ depending on the wrap’s texture, the brand of film, and the wrap’s installation shop. Not every wrap is going to cost the same, and not every installer will provide the same quality of work. Price is definitely a factor based on these choices. Mine was around $4,000 all in.

Final Thoughts

5th Gen 4Runner With Matte Gunmetal Vinyl Wrap & RRW Beadlock Wheels

I truly love seeing 4Runners in unique colors that Toyota never intended for us to see these vehicles in. The 5th Gen platform really wears any color well, and I mean that. We had bright blues, purples, and even gold – all of these 4Runners looked freaking incredible!

We want readers to get inspired by a variety of rigs/products. Next week, we will be showcasing Spare Tire Carrying Setups.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Hi Jon! I am the owner of the shop that was given a shout out on the Topo wrap. The name is incorrect, we are also operating under a new LLC and wondering if it wouldn’t be too much trouble to edit the info? This would be greatly appreciated!
