Press-on Black Emblem Kit for SR5, TRD Off-Road & Limited Toyota 4Runner

4Runner Black Out Emblem Kit - Before & After5th Gen 4Runner - Blackout Emblem Kit Front Final

How to blackout the emblems on your SR5, Limited, or Off-Road 4Runner

This is the quickest, easiest mod you will ever do. The blackout emblem kit is available for SR5, TRD Off-Road, Limited and the Trail Edition 4Runner.

There are hundreds of white vehicles on the road with blacked out everything these days. But it’s pretty hard not to do it. It looks pretty good. White on black has to be my favorite color combination in a vehicle. Many will say that the white on black combination is played out but I still think it looks the best.

Plasti-dip (Plasti Dip® – PLASTI DIP®) Vs. Press On Blackout Emblems

You can plasti-dip your stock emblems or just buy a set of these press-on alloy ABS thermoform plastic overlays. If you go the route of plasti-dip, you will have to mask off the area around your emblems with the newspaper and then apply multiple layers of plasti-dip until you are satisfied with the coatings.

This is not hard by any means but buying a set of press-on emblems is easier.

    Emblems are Easier

Many will disagree with this one, but I do not want to sit around peeling plasti-dip off and risk scratching something. But that’s just me. Decide for yourself what you want to do.

If you have to remove each and every emblem, you run a greater risk of scratching your paint, stretching out an emblem or prying off and damaging your emblems.

Most of these kits are laser cut, CNC trimmed in CAD programs so you are sure to get the exact OEM look and fit. Also, these emblems are made with 3M double-sided tape so you can be sure they will hold.

    Wait, what is Thermoforming?

Thermoforming is a manufacturing process where a plastic sheet is heated to a pliable forming temperature, formed to a specific shape in a mold, and trimmed to create a usable product. With that being said, every product on the market can always be better.

    • Do they work? Yes
    • Are they actual OEM quality? No
    • Would I buy them again? All Day
    • Do they look great? Yeah, they look pretty sweet

    Step #1 – Cleaning Surface

This whole process is about as basic as it gets. Start by cleaning the surface with some water and a little bit of soap. In this bottle is 70% water/ 30% soap.

You really don’t even need to clean it with anything if you don’t want, but better safe than sorry.

Step #2 – Wiping Down Dust & Debris

After you spray down your emblems, wipe everything down. I also took a q-tip and cleaned in between and on the edges of the emblem. I probably went a little overboard but I have a type A personality.

Everything in my word is tidy and spotless. Until children came, then I started to relax.

Step #3 – Peel Back Sticky Adhesive

After everything is ready, apply the adhesive 3M double sided tape emblems. There is a little corner on each of the emblems that you peel off. It is pretty basic.

Just peel and press on. That’s really it.

Step #4 – Press on Emblems

When pressing down each emblem, make sure to press on every center and edge. This especially goes for the big blacked out Toyota logos on the front and back. It felt like there was a bunch of dead space that was not connecting until I pressed down on every square inch of the emblem.

    Step #5 – The “N” Vs. The “U”

The only other item to note is the U vs. N. They look like the exact same so just keep that in mind. Do not try to force the letter N on the U or vice-versa. You will have a bad time!

    There you go, Pretty Simple!

Again, this is a very simple little addition.

    Cheers!

I have a white 2023 limited 4Runner. Looking for an emblem overlay kit. Do you have apart number for the kit or do I have to buy individual overlays. Also I have a concern about washing the vehicle and having them getting caught on the wash mit and coming off or breaking. .love the lack and white look.

I realize this post is old, but I want to apply my kit in winter, no access to heated garage. If I use a heat gun on both surfaces will that work? I read a blog someone said it still needs curing time at temp. Should I wait for summer?

Do you offer this emblem set for a 2021 TRD PRO?

We’re the factory overlays rigid or a softer plastic? I just bought set from Toyota and they seem a little bendable. I thought factory ones would be a harder plastic

Thanks for the info. The pic at the top of the page seems to show a 4runner without a front valance. Or it’s white. How is that one setup?

What about the Pro? Only need the large Toyota logo and “4Runner”

If by chance I wanted to take the overlays off can you do so without damaging the original emblem?

I’m also wondering this too. I got some for cheaper, but the cuts on the overlays were pretty bad and I didn’t notice until after I put them on

I haven’t seen a comment on this in awhile. Does anyone know if I can buy the TRD Off Road package with the 4Runner and Toyota emblem included? Amazon does not sell the TRD Off Road with the 4Runner and emblem. You have to buy the SR5 to get the other stuff.

Looks Good! I just did them all the way around on my 2019 TRD Off Road Premium. Instant gratification. Now I am looking to Black Out the Rear Bumper Cover Valance. I ordered the OEM Pro Bumper from the Toyota dealer. It was Shiny Black — Terrible. How do I get the Matte Black rear bumper to match the emblems? I don’t want to commit to a heavy expensive swing out bumper……Yet.

The emblem overlays are not available on Amazon for a 2018 Limited 4Runner at this time. Any idea where else I might purchase from? I wanted exactly what you suggested! :).

Anyone tried buying the kit straight from Toyota? It’s $125. From what I can tell on Amazon you have to buy two separate kits to get the complete package: 4runner, trd off road, and Toyota badge.

I’m a little hesitant because Toyota’s website doesn’t list out exactly what badges it comes with, and I didn’t have to specify my trim…

I just found them on Ebay for $105 shipped for the TRD Off Road 15 piece pack which includes the Toyota emblems and 4Runner lettering. Sellers name was Delkrikit.

I bought some on Amazon in October. They were a little pricey but they work great. The Toyota logos come with SR5 badges, but I was able to find TRD Off-Road badges separately (again on Amazon). Links below!

I’m considering these vs. Plastidip. Do you really have to remove the emblems to Plastidip? I see lots of youtube videos where they spray and peel while leaving the emblems right on the vehicle.

I have a white 2018 TRD Off Road 4Runner and would like to black out my emblems. Any suggestions on where I can find them? I don’t want to take any risks by removing the factory emblems to plasti-dip.
But, I really want those emblems blacked out…

Wondering how the emblems are holding up…
Have you noticed if they have faded over time, falling off, or have materials/liquid get caught in the small gaps under the symbols/letters? How has the 3M tape held up to car washes and weather?
I have been wanting to do this to my vehicle, do you recommended using any additional sealant (super glue, silicon, clear gorilla glue, etc) to seal the edges of the emblems. I am concerned that liquid will get underneath the emblem and damage the emblem or my vehicle. Any lessons learned or helpful tips would be great. Thanks.

Would you recommend heating up the adhesive 3M tape before sticking it?
