14 Rad 4Runner Builds That Will Inspire You
Voodoo Blue was only available in 2019 on the TRD Pro 4Runner… unless you lived in Hawaii. In 2020, the 1919 Waialua Editions became available. This limited edition 4Runner sat on the SR5 platform with a Limited body kit and special badging. Other than that, Voodoo Blue has yet to be duplicated on the 4Runner platform making it one of the rarest and most neck-breaking colors that Toyota has offered.
For this week, we have 14 killer rigs! It was so flippin’ hard for me to pick featured photos for this post because they were all just absolute bangers! As usual, each owner has listed out all of their top 4Runner mods and shared what they like most about their setup.
Enjoy!

This Voodoo 4Runner was actually the first to land in Arizona in September of 2018. Since stock and now with my current setup, this Smurf has taken me all over the Southwest.
From our snowy peaks in Flagstaff, through the famous Sedona Red Rocks, to our surrounding deserts, it’s never let me down. It’s unstoppable in its current form.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT YOUR SETUP?
My favorite things about my current setup have to be how well everything goes together and the custom electrical work. I think the armor, lighting, wheels, tires, and suspension have all come together quite well, giving a unique look that blends well with the undisputed best 4Runner TRD Pro color. The armor has done a great job of adding black to compliment the voodoo blue. On top of this, everything has a purpose and serves it well leading to very enjoyable drives both on and off-road.
My favorite mods I have done are the electrical mods. I enjoyed designing and building my overly complicated dual battery system and power distribution. I also really enjoyed designing my custom switch setup. It is very nice to add 20 accessory switches that all look like the factory put them there giving full control over all of my lighting and accessories. Some of the custom lighting controls I worked in have added a ton of conveniences such as a selectable quick on/off of my lighting via a selectable high beam control mode and rear bumper fog lights that can come on with reverse.
Other than modding, I just really enjoy being out in the 4Runner. I never thought of myself as a car guy or someone who enjoyed driving much in the past, but there is just something about the 4Runner that has caused all of that to change.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT YOUR SETUP?
What I like most about my current setup definitely has to be the iKamper Skycamp 2.0.
I started with a Smittybilt Overlander RTT and the ease of setup with the iKamper makes life so much more simple when setting up camp. Other than the ease of setup, another keynote for the iKamper that I like over the Smittybilt is the size! The king-size mattress is more than enough room for my wife and I and our two (medium-sized) dogs, with plenty of room to spare.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT YOUR SETUP?
The AluCab tent, which I scored pre-owned by a neighbor, is the best thing ever. I’ll admit, for 9 months or more out of the year it is a bit excessive in California. However, in the mountains and winters, it really shines.
This year I took a 3-week road trip to go skiing in the Canadian Rockies, Banff, Golden, Revelstoke, and Whistler. The trip required minimal effort and planning. The tent can store two large sleeping bags (-40C overfill down), two pillows, a 3″ mattress, and other miscellaneous gear fully closed.
This means setup requires me to only one, open the tent, two, set up the ladder, and three, plant two poles for the awning. All of this gives me the choice of a weekend or long trip, even in winter.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT YOUR SETUP?
I use my 4R as a daily driver so I built it with functionality in mind. I absolutely love my Dobinsons IMS suspension kit; it rides a little bit stiffer than the factory Fox suspension, but it still performs really well on and off-road.
My next favorite mod is my Relations Race Wheels RR6s. They completely changed the look of the truck and I love that they have the option to be mounted as bead-locks.
Finally is the Prinsu roof rack; it actually has less wind noise than the factory pro rack which I love. The 4Runner has been a great truck and I can’t wait to see where it takes me!

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT YOUR SETUP?
What I like the most about my current set-up is the color and functionality. I went from a 2-door coupe that I almost totaled on the world’s smallest rock, to this beast that takes me where I want. To be honest, I had always wanted a white 4Runner and I was set on it. One day I was browsing local listings and came across this Voodoo Blue 4Runner. It instantly caught my eye. The next day I went “just to go look at it” and sure enough, it came home with me!
4Runners in general are extremely customizable and I know mine is nowhere near where I want it to be, but isn’t that the fun of it? There’s always room for improvements and growth. I look forward to how much I’ll learn and the skills I’ll attain as I make mods.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT YOUR SETUP?
What I like most about my setup is that, despite the modifications I’ve made, I’ve managed to maintain the quality of my ride. I love the aggressive look I’ve managed to achieve with the modifications I’ve chosen.
My current setup did not distract from the great looks and functionality for everyday driving or a day off-roading/camping with the family. Overall, I’m very happy with my 4Runner!

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT YOUR SETUP?
I would have to say my topmost useful mods right now are my interior mods with all my Rago MOLLE panels and the dash mount. These get a lot of use and provide a lot of functionality.
Next would be my CRL rock sliders and roof rack. The sliders have saved me many times and the full-length roof rack is so useful for longer road trips.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT YOUR SETUP?
I love the contrast of black, red and blue. The stock Fox suspension rides smoothly on and off the road.
The Eibach Pro lift springs give it a little bit of a lift so I can fit 285s. The SCS F5s with red wheels decals align well with my vision of the build. It’s not done yet, but is any build ever done?

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT YOUR SETUP?
This has been the best vehicle I have ever owned and I love everything about it, especially the color! I originally wanted a white 4Runner but this is what my local dealer happened to have on the lot. I’ve never looked back. It never gets old watching people crack their necks to look at it and countless people have stopped me to talk about it.
The thing that I love the most has to be that Magnuson Supercharger. The whine is addictive and the power this thing finally has makes it perfect for what I need from it. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to sell this one.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT YOUR SETUP?
Everyone on this Feature Friday better say “the Voodoo Blue color”! The white TE37s on Voodoo definitely is my favorite. Keep it old-school, FJ style! White wheels aren’t the norm and a lot of us started in the import scene (I still have my 2003 WRX). I just wanted to be different. Before my 4Runner, I had a 2018 Tacoma in Cement and kept it low-key; this time we are breaking necks!
Color combo aside, I love the simple/clean look of the 5th Gen and didn’t want to add or change much from OEM, just enhance the features. I put a lot of thought and research into the products I’ve added to the 4R to make this build capable/functional when our family camps!
