11 Midnight Black Metallic Toyota 4Runner Setups to Inspire Your Build in 2022 – Mods List & More!
This Week’s Topic: Midnight Black 4Runners
Welcome back to another Feature Friday! This week we are doing my favorite kind of FF in the form of color-specific 4Runners. This time we have a compilation of 11 Midnight Black Metallic 4Runners. Midnight Black 4Runners have to be one of the best non-TRD Pro colors that Toyota offers. This color isn’t just a bland gloss black color either, by the way. Midnight Black has hints of blue, purple, and green within its metallic flake.
Now personally, I have zero desire to own a black vehicle (even though my first gen Tundra was black, but that was slim pickings), but this doesn’t mean that I can’t appreciate these 11 rigs we have featured below. The reason I wouldn’t want to own one is for the cliché thought of – my vehicle will be dirty ALL the time. Well, that’s perfect for the 4Runner then right?! I never put that together until now, but if you are “properly” using your 4Runner to off-road, then who cares if the black paint gets filthy! The rigs below look so good and the owners provided their full list of mods so you can gain inspiration to replicate some of these builds on your own.
Enjoy guys!

What Do You Like About Your Setup?
There’s been a lot that’s changed on my 4Runner. I love switching things up, trying new and different products in hopes that the next one will be the one that’ll stick.
I love the versatility that my 4Runner has. I’ve put my rig in a lot of situations, regardless of whether it’s dangerous or not, it always delivers without fail.

- Magnuson Supercharger
Overland & Recovery Gear

What Do You Like About Your Setup?
I’d have to say the best thing I’ve done to my 4Runner was installing the supercharger, especially living at altitude. When driving over 9,000 ft passes I find myself screaming up the passing lane even with stock gearing and 33” KM3s. Once the motor hits 1,900 rpms and higher, the supercharger starts pulling hard.
My second most favorite mod has to be the King shocks up front. I put the 600lb springs on them to accommodate the C4 Fab Lo Pro front bumper and Warn winch. The Kings make it ride like a Caddy and handle so much better on and off-road.

What Do You Like About Your Setup?
Although maintenance on a black vehicle is less than ideal, there’s something to be said about the sleekness of a murdered-out vehicle. Ceramic coating has made my life easier, and it allows me to enjoy my vehicle more since it is super easy to clean!
There really isn’t anything I don’t like about my current setup. If I had to choose my top 3 mods, it would be my C4 Fabrication front bumper, Morimoto XB headlights, and the 35” Kumho MT71 tires. I believe those 3 mods help my rig stand out a bit from others while improving looks and functionality.

Honestly, EVERYTHING! The 4Runner is a head turner everywhere we go. This is especially true coming from NYC where the truck looks so out of place.
Yet, even though it seems out of place in the Big City, it still just fits. right in since it looks so good. The best part is knowing that the truck was purpose-built. It looks tough and pushes limits on the trail. I am very happy with how the build is going thus far with still plenty of ideas in the works.

What Do You Like About Your Setup?
The main thing I wanted was the ability to go anywhere and be as comfortable as possible while doing it. This build allows me to wheel, kayak, fish, camp, or explore easily.
To me, all black cars have always caught my eye. Black vehicles just look so good when they are this clean!

Editor’s Thoughts
I really like how much has been done to Zach’s 4Runner, yet it looks super OEM.
The wheels he chose from RRW compliment the Midnight Black Metallic paint perfectly. He also has a ton of lighting added to his rig, yet it looks like it came from the factory this way. Overall, this is a super clean yet functional build by Zach. 10/10!

What Do You Like About Your Setup?
I bought this 4Runner purely for recreational use at first, but it very quickly became my Swiss Army knife vehicle. From moving houses, crawling in the Sierras, to currently being my home on wheels as I’m nomadic for the next few months – it’s taken everything I’ve thrown at it without skipping a beat.
My favorite mods so far are a mix between the lift for more clearance and a stiffer ride, sliders for keeping the body safe, and my head unit with Maestro. I get a lot of use since the 2019 model year missed a few of those features that later year models had.

What I love about my Toyota 4Runner is that it has taken me to places I never thought I would ever see!! I love making new memories and exploring new grounds.
I have made some great friends along the way and there are no words to describe how awesome and welcoming the off-roading community has been. From toy drives, campfires at Anza, sick trails, camping cookouts, and of course having fun on Instagram, lol… it has been an awesome ride and I am excited for more things to come.

What Do You Like About Your Setup?
I first bought the 4Runner because I wanted something reliable and capable off-road that would fit my 2 dogs. The iconic rear window that rolls down sealed the deal on that decision.
My favorite modification so far would probably be the Elka 2.5 DSC front suspension. I’m still patiently waiting for the rears to come in. If I could do it all over again, I’d spend the money on a nice suspension before purchasing anything else for the 4Runner.

I’m a big fan of how clean 4Runner looks with the Low Pro front bumper from SSO. It looks OEM but the bumper makes the front end super functional. The wheels from KMC and the Prinsu rack also help round off the look. I also tried to get it more blacked out with tint and by painting the TRD skid black.
I enjoy the low-profile look of the Prinsu and how well it fits the roof. The rack works great for carrying an RTT and other accessories (highly suggest the mounts from Prinsu though). I also really enjoy the ride that the OME suspension and UCAs provide for commuting and taking off-road or camping in Arizona and Georgia.

What Do You Like About Your Setup?
What I really like about it is it is my own build. I did all the mods myself and it is still evolving with more mods to come.
So far it is very simple, but it is very effective too. Oh, and did I mention I traded a 6.2 raptor for it. That is another story… But I’ll just say that that should tell you just how much I love this 4Runner.
Final Thoughts
What a freaking killer compilation of Midnight Black 4Runners.
I hope that one or more of these builds caught your eye because I know they did for me! If you have any questions about some of the mods that these owners have done, definitely make sure you DM them on Instagram and show them some love with a follow.
