Off-road or on-road, there is a major safety aspect to being able to see around your vehicle.

I mean, nobody wants to hit a rock, a tree, or worse, a person. I noticed very quickly how terrible many of the stock bulbs were on my 4Runner. The reverse lights were one of the largest deficiencies I found. Finding a solution to this problem was tougher than I anticipated.  All bulbs are not created equal, and luckily, I found LasFit.

Initial Thoughts

LasFit is relatively new to the LED lighting scene. They provide direct replacement LED bulbs and have some cool products, such as their White + Yellow Switchback Fog Lights.

For the price, these bulbs are fantastic. I was astounded by how much brighter they are than the “super bright” Sylvania bulbs that I bought initially.

LasFit lists these at 1,500 lumens per bulb, but are probably around 900 lumens of actual output.  Either way, these bulbs are powerful and bright.

Install Overview & Review

Install

Replacing the factory bulbs is a 15-minute project. Brenan has a great tutorial on installing the reverse lights here.

I strongly recommend using plastic pry tools. No matter how careful you are, METAL SCRATCHES PLASTIC. I learned this the hard way with my first set of replacement bulbs. This set was cheap, and I use them for everything inside the truck now.

The most difficult part of the install is ensuring that the bulbs have the correct polarity. The easiest way that I found to check this is to:

Step 1. Install Bulbs

Install both the passenger and driver bulbs. Leave the bulbs free inside the compartment.

Step 2. Put 4Runner in Reverse

Put your vehicle in reverse and use your rearview mirror to ensure that both sides light up.

Step 3. Adjust & Reinstall As Needed

If they do not, simply unplug the bulbs, rotate them 180 degrees, reinstall and repeat steps 1 and 2.

Review

The output was significantly better than my previous bulbs. While those were not stock, it shows how much variation there is in aftermarket LED bulbs.

The 6K color has a small amount of blue, but nothing that is harsh on the eyes. Since the install, there has not been any flickering that you can get with some bulbs.

I compared the two bulbs to show how different they are.

Sylvania LED Bulbs

The Sylvania bulbs really just changed the color from the stock halogen bulbs. You can see that the taillights are visible through the reverse light.

LASFit LED Bulbs

The LasFit bulbs eliminate the light of the taillights almost completely. This leads to better visibility both straight back and on the peripherals.

Final Thoughts

The LasFit LED reverse light bulbs is another excellent product that LasFit produces. They are super bright, easy to install, and an inexpensive upgrade.

Overall, these bulbs will make the world of difference in what you see in reverse. Protecting you, your 4Runner, and others around you.
