An All-New LED Interior Light Kit: Unique Style Racing (USR) LED Dome and Interior Lighting Kit Step-By-Step Install & Review for 5th Gen 4Runner
Unique Style Racing recently sent me their all-new LED Interior Light Kit to review.
This full 9-piece kit comes with:
- Full replacement dome light
- 2 map lights
- 4 door lights
- 2 cargo lights in your choice of red, blue or white
The dome light can be purchased separately as well. USR sent me a red and blue kit to review, so I will be focusing on those colors. I made a full install video on my YouTube channel, so feel free to check that out as well.

Why LED?
LED stands for Light Emitting Diode and offers more lighting for less power and heat. It can give a modern and custom look to any vehicle. It stands out on the 4Runner since these vehicles come with so many halogen bulbs from that factory. We have seen a few other Interior LED Light Kits on the blog here but today we are covering the USR Interior LED Light kit.
The USR kit is cool because you can customize it to come in either white, blue, or red. Let’s jump into it!
Installation
Installing these lights is pretty straightforward. The LEDs replace the incandescent/halogen bulbs from the factory. It is very helpful to have some needle-nose pliers and a plastic trim pry tool, like this one on Amazon.
Step 1. Unboxing
The piece kit option comes with all of the bulbs laid out nicely in the packaging. The dome light is in the center, map and door lights to the left and hatch lights to the right.
Step 2. Install Map Lights
For the map lights, the covers need to be pried from the inside edge, as they are hinged.
Once popped off, the existing bulb can be pulled out with pliers. You may also need to use some duct tape to help with grip. Don’t be afraid to wiggle these out.
Step 3. Install Dome Light
For the dome light, pry the cover off from the front, near the switch.
The bulb is then exposed. The USR dome light used the same connector. Once that is installed, the factory light toggle switch should power on the LED. If not, flip the connector.
Tuck the wires in and gently press the dome light into place.
Step 4. Install Door Lights
Next, we have the 4 door lights. These all work the same.
By prying the whole unit out, you can access the connector and disconnect the assembly. The lens/cover comes off by sliding the gray tray out.
Then, there is a shroud around the light that can be popped off. At this point, the bulb can be replaced. Repeat this for each door.
Step 5. Install Hatch/Liftgate Lights
Moving to the hatch/cargo area lights, the whole unit comes out by prying it from the left edge.
Once popped out, it can be disconnected from the plug. The cover is easily removed and the bulb can be accessed. Install it in reverse order.
That is it! You’re done.
Final Thoughts
These lights are bright and colorful! Install was straight-forward. USR makes it easy by providing a whole kit with nice packaging. The red and blue colors are rich and do not flicker or anything, like some other LEDs I have tried.
Help! I ordered the USR kit, but I can’t figure out how to hook up the dome light. 🙁
2021 TRD Off Road.
Lol, never mind. I figured it out as soon as I looked at some pictures on the USR site. 😛
Hey Martin, Wifey saw some LED grill lights on a 4runner the other day that were purple that she wants (for 2021 4runner). Searched everywhere for them and can’t find any. Only colors I see are amber and clear. Example:

Have you see other colors available or are they custom (possibly clear LED’s wrapped in purple)?
Thanks for the video. Been checking out a lot of your content and love it. I’ve been looking into doing the interior led mod and appreciate this as a cheaper option. My question has to do with the dome light…when replaced does the factory cover no longer fit due to the cover provided with the new led bulb? If so, can you just replace the bulb?
Thanks for checking out my stuff! LEDs are a great, cheaper mod and look nice.
You could just replace the actual bulb with an LED version of the original and use the factory cover – but this kit replaces the bulb and is designed in such a way to where the factory cover no longer fits/is used.
how did you do your pro grill? looks mean =]
Hey there! I just got a kit off eBay. Painted the letters flat black, and had my friend paint the valence bar Toyota Super White II. Them just 3Med it on after swapping out the top grille, which is included in most kits!
Box arrived, install complete…. AMAZING difference! Thanks for the review!
Glad I could be helpful!
That looks awesome! I put in some VLEDs all around and they look great, but my rig is all Mag Gray and Black with red accents and I’d have to try out the reds. BTW, what are you planning to do with the set of red lights you got? lol
How do you like the VLEDs? This seems like a cheaper route. Does VLED sell a complete kit?
Sorry for the late reply. The VLEDs look fantastic and give out plenty of light. The white 5500k color is perfect without a hint of blue. The red would be just for a change of pace and as a color match for my trim. I haven’t compared costs, but when I bought VLEDS didn’t sell a kit (though that would be a smart thing for packaging them up). I used this blog to determine which bulbs I’d need and where. In addition to the internal lights mentioned in this kit, I replaced the puddle lights in the side mirrors and the license plate lights. With those extra lights and buying 1 or 2 more than I needed, I spent ~$170 so I’m pretty sure the VLEDs are more expensive.
Thanks! The red would look great on your rig…I ended up trying them on mine just to see how they look. Maybe I’ll do a giveaway.
I tried the link you posted to see the red but it isn’t “live” anymore.
I have a ’15 Trail that has the red stitching, so I’ve kept to the red/black theme for lots of my mods (red paracord hand grabs, red plastidip for both bumpers, red recovery hooks, red shovel, etc). I would love to see what the red interior lights look like. Any chance of relinking the pics?
Thanks for the review.
Order placed! Can’t wait to rid a 2021 T4R of prehistoric lighting technology… Thanks for the review and video!
Nice! It blows my mind Toyota still gets away with halogens in 2020.
So, how about an HID/LED option for the DRL/high beams? I’m almost embarrassed to use them. Even my 2018 Tacoma had LED DRL’s…
Hey there! I have a tried a few different LED bulbs with good results.
In the stock 4Runner headlight housings, the Auxbeam RGB H11 LEDS worked nicely, and also Diode Dynamics SL1. I had some 9005 Auxbeam bulbs in the high beams.
I have recently installed the whole new headlight housings from DEPO. They have a built in low-beam LED and some other cool features. Just did an article on here, too!
