Welcome back to an all-new post featuring the top trails and OHV parks across America! Last time, we explored favorite trails in Southern California.
In today’s post, we are taking a look at trails across the Hawaiian Islands.
Hawaii is this amazing haven that draws people in with its beauty, and the off-roading scene is no exception. Think picture-perfect landscapes straight out of a magazine – lush greenery, towering mountains, and sunsets that take your breath away. While I haven’t had the chance to hit the trails in Hawaii myself, it seems like an unforgettable experience and an adventure I wouldn’t want to miss.

1. Kailua Kona – Big Island

Hands down, one of the most beautiful areas around here is Kailua Kona beaches. Hawaii has some of the most beautiful beaches that you can drive on. It’s a great way to enjoy nature while exploring Hawaii. I would highly suggest it to anyone who hasn’t been.
What Would You Rate This Spot?
I would rate this area differently depending on where you are. I would say that some areas are a 4/10 and others can be a 10/10. It all depends on where you go but regardless, you’re sure to have a great time.
2. Votk Valley Of The Kings – Big Island

I would say that one of my favorite areas is the Votk Valley of the Kings. It’s home, it’s sacred, it’s powerful. There’s no place like it.
What Would You Rate This Spot?
This spot would be rated a 5/10 primarily for non-residents as many underestimate the pali (cliff) that is being traveled. The road only allows for one vehicle 90% of the way so knowing and respecting local traffic courtesies is vital.
3. Kuaokala Trail (Peacock Flats) – Ka’ena Point

This trail is a little over 2 miles long, but the views are top-tier, from the mountain to the ocean and everything in between. Once at the top, you’ll get to camp and star-gaze throughout the night. There are two main trails that range in difficulty. Whether you are a beginner or an expert off-roader, you’ll find something that is perfect for you. But come equipped as some of the trails are not for the faint of heart.
What Would You Rate This Spot?
I would say the level of difficulty ranges from 3/10 to 10/10 depending on what trails you end up taking. If you’re a beginner I’d recommend staying on the main trail and following the signs, if you’re feeling adventurous ask the locals about the “lower” trail but never go alone. Always do your research before going, and respect the land and trails you are on. Always showing aloha to those coming and going and you’ll have an unforgettable time!
4. Ka`ena Point Trail – Waialua

Oahu doesn’t have too many off-road places to go, so this place is a top favorite. A bit rocky and there are all kinds of trails, but the best part about it is that it’s right next to the ocean with mountain and ocean views. It’s also family-friendly where you can fish, swim in certain areas, and camp out.
What Would You Rate This Spot?
It depends on what part of the area you’re in. The level of difficulty ranges from 3/10 to 8/10 because if it rains it could get slippery but when it’s dry, it’s a lot easier. Hawaii tends to rain a lot!
5. Ka’ena Point – Mokule’ia

I really enjoy going to this area because of the great views. Once their you will have a beautiful view of the ocean as well as the North Shore coastline.
What Would You Rate This Spot?
I would rate this area a 3/10. This area is not difficult at all, most 2wd vehicles are able to drive through on the main trail with no problem at all. There are however certain spots or trails that you can test the capabilities of your vehicle.
6. Polihale State Park – Kauai

The Polihale State Park is definitely one of my favorite beaches to go on the island. It’s surrounded by mountains and if you go towards the end of the day, you’ll enjoy one of the most beautiful views where you can enjoy the sunset!
What Would You Rate This Spot?
Overall this is a pretty easy trail. To get to the beach it is a bit more technical so I would rate it a 5/10. However when you’re on the beach it’s pretty much smooth sailing and I would rate it a 1/10.

Hawaii is truly a gem for exploration, and those fortunate enough to call it home are living in paradise. The idea of off-roading in these areas is beyond my imagination, and it seems to be a haven for enthusiasts of all skill levels.
