I’m sure most of us have tried out a cheap phone mount at one point or another. They’re typically made of plastic with either a weak tension clip or suction cup.

After a few days of driving, we find out that we got what we paid for as our phone falls under our feet.

That will never happen again with the Offroam Phone Mount Kit. It is almost entirely metal, both marine-grade aluminum and stainless steel, with some 3M elastomers (essentially rubber) and one plastic knob. It is a very solid feeling mount even before it’s installed on the dash.

Installation

The mount attaches to the dash with a clamp design between the vent and the CD player. Using the provided hex tool, installation is a breeze. All you have to do is loosen the bolts holding the clamp together until it can fit into the dash.

Then, tighten them back down and you’ve got yourself a solid mount that is not going anywhere!

The design includes two ball and socket fittings; one on the actual phone clip, and the other on the clamp. These provide a 360° range of movement on both ends. This allows you to position the phone wherever it works best for you. You can have it up by the vents, in front of the center console screen, or anywhere else you desire!

The arm adjusts by loosening the plastic knob to loosen the sockets. On the opposite side of the adjustment knob, there is a traditional bolt head and cut-out in the arm. That little design feature means there won’t be any slipping or spinning of the bolt that could lead to your mount falling down.

Function

The Offroam Phone Mount is a mighty little mount. It doesn’t use any permanent bolts, double-sided tape, or suction cups to attach to the dash. The phone clip holds strong but is smooth enough to easily open to whatever size phone is being attached. It is very easy to adjust the position thanks to the adjustment knob on the arm. If one position isn’t the right fit, just loosen it a tiny bit and move it around to a new spot.

I was immediately impressed when using the Offroam Phone Mount. The tension of the phone clip is perfect and allows for one-handed operation, while still holding the phone securely. The arm tightens down very well and the mount does not budge. The clamp holding it to the dash is sturdy and thanks to the rubber liners, I know it’s not scratching up the dash. I also am not worried at all that it will shake loose and send my phone tumbling.

There are only two potential downsides to the design of this kit. I only say this to make you all aware, but to me they are non-issues.

The first is that the clamp fits into the CD slot. You’ll probably want to avoid using the CD player once it’s mounted, but let’s be honest, when was the last time you played a CD anyway? The second is that no matter where you mount your phone, it will likely cover up some of the vent or some of the screen. Mine is set up closer to the passenger side above the screen. That way the screen is clear, and the middle vent on the passenger side can still provide most of its airflow.

Final Thoughts

I can’t speak highly enough about the Offroam Phone Mount. There is no doubt in my mind that this mount will keep my phone safe and secure at all times in any type of driving.

I appreciate the sturdiness of the design and the little details that ensure it functions perfectly. I also like that it can be removed without leaving any damage or permanent alterations. My favorite feature is that I can hop in and attach my phone with one hand. My wife loves this as she always has her hands full hauling our kids around.

It’s a very versatile mount that can be installed almost anywhere along with the CD player opening and can swivel anywhere to fit your needs.
