Morimoto 2Stroke 3.0 LED Low Beams or Fog Lights – 5th Gen 4Runner – 5500K White Bulbs

H11, H9, H8 Morimoto 2Stroke 3.0 LED Headlight / Fog Light Bulbs with DRL Drivers – Uses the H11 Connector and Osram LED 5500K White Bulbs

Driving around with the stock halogen bulbs on your 5th Gen can be extremely dangerous. The stock bulbs maybe some of the worst headlight bulbs I’ve ever seen. Whether you’re off-roading, overlanding, or just simply driving around in a dark place at night, lights are essential to the safety of yourself and your vehicle. Being able to see what is ahead of you can prevent you from hitting an animal or another object that is obstructing the road.

Similar to the 2.0s, one of the great features of the Morimoto bulbs is that you do not have to drill the dust caps on your headlights. One of the downsides to HIDs and many LED bulbs on the market is that they don’t exactly fit inside the housing, causing you to have to drill the dust caps.

Morimoto spent a lot of time improving upon their previous bulbs, creating a greater intensity that allows for lighting further down the road. The 3.0’s have extremely crisp cut-off lines, which help prevent your bulbs from blinding oncoming traffic.

The 2Stroke 3.0 bulbs are a great upgrade to your headlights that require zero modification to your housings.

The Morimoto 2 Stroke 3.0 kit includes 2 LED bulbs and 2 LED drivers that are backed by a 3-year warranty. The bulbs feature Osram Oslon LED chips that provide 2600 raw lumens, drawing just 22 watts of power per bulb.

What are Osram Oslon LED Chips?

The Osram Oslon Black Flat LED chips are high output and high robust chips that have very low thermal resistance. These chips have outstanding heat dissipation and high currents for increased light output. The Osram chip is one of the most reliable and best thermal management chips on the market today.

Due to the nature of the design of the 5th Gen headlight housings, one of the most important features for bulbs are bulbs that have a thin LED chip and thin head allowing for 360 degrees of coverage. The Morimoto 2 Stroke 3.0 bulbs do a wonderful job of producing excellent output.

The majority of LED bulb upgrades on the market have a fan on the backside of the bulb, which push the heat away from the bulb towards the dust cap. What sets Morimoto apart is that their fan is integrated into the bulb housing and dissipates the heat forward. What does this mean? Well similar to halogen bulbs, when it’s cold outside the Morimoto bulb will heat the lens of the headlights, essentially acting as a defroster for your headlights. This is an amazing feature since one of the downsides to upgrading from halogen to LED is heat inside the headlight.

These bulbs produce a nice 5500K white beam, which is a much cleaner look compared to the orange stock halogens.

Since the fan is encased in an anodized diecast shell, it is both quiet and moisture-proof.

Key Features:

  • Smallest Surface Emission Interval Compared to Other Bulbs (2mm)
  • OSRAM HKL LED Chips (5500K)
  • 2600 Lumens from 22W of Power (Per Bulb)
  • Fully Rotatable Base
  • Exchanges Heat Out the Front to Warm the Headlight Lens (Completely Enclosed Fan)
  • Completely Moisture Proof Driver
  • OEM Style Tension Spring Base
  • Special Reflector Optics for a More Intense, Complete Beam Pattern
  • Anodized Die-Cast Shell
  • Plug and Play with No Modifications Necessary

Installation Overview

Installing these bulbs are extremely straightforward and easy. Installation is the same as the 2.0 bulbs, which Brenan included in the previous write up. No tools are required to install.

First Impressions

Morimoto took a different approach when developing the 3.0’s. Instead of focusing on creating an extremely bright bulb, Morimoto worked on developing a light that illuminates a very far distance down the road. These bulbs may not be the brightest on the market, but they have an exceptional output quality and very clean cut-off lines.

I previously was using LED bulbs from Amazon, which were extremely bright but didn’t do a very good job at illuminating at a far distance. Instead, my previous bulbs blinded oncoming traffic and I constantly had other drivers flashing their high beams at me.

Morimoto is one of the industry leaders in LED lights and the quality of their products speaks for itself.

So how do these bulbs perform?

I’ve had two sets these, they do not last any time at all. This last set has lasted just a couple of months. One bulb seems to be at half power and one the led as burned out on one side.

Now that you’ve been running these for a bit, are you content with your purchase. Have you noticed the fan noise at all since you are running multiple bulbs?

Have you had a chance to compare with anyone running the XD leds?

Thanks,

What is the height of your runner? Are your headlights aimed/tilted down to compensate for roasted vehicle height?

Did you have an issue with installation on the passenger side? Tried to install and my passenger side would not fit properly. 2018 TRD Off Road

The collar didn’t have any Allen key slots, it just rotates within the notches.
Can you post pictures of both the driver and passenger side installed behind the dust cap?

Hi, I have a Honda civic 10 gen and I am facing the same issue with the passenger side headlight, did you manage to fix it. What I did was to rotate the collar before inserting the bulb, but I don’t like the light output on that side. Si if you have any idea please let me know

Do I still need to get the male adapter harness that’s mentioned in the 2.0 installation guide with the 3.0’s?

What about the High-Beam? Would it be advisable to do both the 3.0s in both the Lows and Highs?
