5 Reasons To Upgrade Your Floor Liners To The New Husky X-Act Contour

Husky Liners X Act Contour For 4Runner

Why Better Protection For Your Carpet Should Be Your First Mod

Probably one of the best mods any new 4Runner owner can start with is a set of floor liners. Not basic floor mats, real floor liners. They keep water, snow, mud, sand, pet hair, spilled snacks, and every other trail mess off your carpet.

I have run a lot of different liners and mats over the years. One of the first upgrades I make on almost every build is a full set of Husky liners.

The biggest reason is the way Husky fits around the kick panel. That area is where WeatherTech tends to curl, lift, or gap. Once that happens, dirt slips underneath the liner and grinds into the carpet. Here is an old post showing the WeatherTech issue in real use. Check out this old post showing the Weathertech floor liners curling.

The debate between Husky and WeatherTech has been around forever, but the newer Husky X-Act Contour are even better than the old Husky WeatherBeater liners for a few reasons.

Back in later 2024 and into early 2025, Husky Liners released their new ProCore formula. It’s more flexible, has a softer feel, and is simple to clean.

Let’s jump in and see what the updated liner are all about.

X-Act Contour Vs. WeatherBeater

The easy way to differentiate the two is that the old WeatherBeater liners had the badge glued onto the liner. The X-Act Contour liners do away with badge and leave with nothing but what you need, just a simple liner.

The X-Act Contour and WeatherBeater are Husky’s two most popular liners for the 4Runner. Both are laser measured for edge-to-edge coverage and both protect the carpet way better than the stock mats. The difference comes down to comfort, flexibility, cleanup time, and overall user experience.

X-Act Contour uses Husky’s newer ProCore formula. It is softer, more flexible, easier to clean, and more comfortable underfoot. WeatherBeater uses the ProGard material, which is the more rigid all weather option that focuses on containment and durability. Both work, but they serve slightly different owners and use cases.

1. Better Protection Against Debris

Both liners seal off the dead pedal, transmission tunnel, seat rails, and the lower kick panel, where dirt usually sneaks under.

The X-Act Contour fits tighter in the curves and, most importantly, around the kick panel, because the softer ProCore material conforms to the floor pan more naturally.

WeatherBeater has higher, more rigid walls for maximum debris containment. You get full coverage either way, but the X Act Contour delivers a more refined fit.

2. Faster Cleanup

One of the biggest differences is cleanup.

The ProCore formula in the X-Act Contour makes each liner easier to pull out, rinse, and reinstall. Husky claims that it’s about 20% faster compared to WeatherBeater in overall cleanup time but I think that’s pretty relative. Regardless, they do provide more surface area, which leaves more of your carpet underneath cleaner.

3. More Flexible Fit

Flexible Fit Floor Liners

X-Act Contour is 22% more flexible than WeatherBeater.

That means it curves into corners, drops into the floorpan area more easily, and does not fight you during install. The softer material also prevents that stiff edge lift that sometimes shows up on older liners like WeatherBeater and WeatherTech. WeatherBeater is still the more rigid and provides a better kick panel fitment than WeatherTech, and overall, just a heavier-duty option over the new X-Act Contour. The X-Act Contour offers a smoother install and a better out-of-the-box fit. Overall, they’re just not so rigid.

4. Softer & More Comfortable Underfoot

The X-Act Contour is over 10% softer than WeatherBeater.

You can actually feel the difference. It does not have that hard plastic feel you get with some stiff liners. If the 4Runner is your daily driver or road trip vehicle, the softer footwell is a decently noticeable upgrade.

5. Built To Hold Shape Long Term

Pictured above are the older WeatherBeaters with the glued-on badge.

One of the downsides of the old design was that the badge would tend to come out of place from time to time, and if you forget to glue it back into place, it’s easy to lose. This has been an ongoing problem with Husky and WeatherTech for years now. So much so that sellers like Drews Decals and other sellers on Etsy started offering custom designs to go in place of these badges.

Both liners are made in the USA and built for long-term use, but the new ProCore formula removes the badge and gives the X-Act Contour an edge in long-term use.

In addition to that, the new material also resists curling, warping, and edge lift better over time.

WeatherBeater is still known for durability, but X-Act Contour is Husky’s longest-lasting liner.
