A Simple Way To Mount A Portable Water Tank To Your Roof Rack

Say hello to the simplest and most reliable way to mount your WaterPORT DayTank to your Prinsu roof rack!

I’m sure many of you use the DayTank or have been eyeing it for your camping adventures. Well, let me tell you, this is the perfect complement to that tank. If you’re searching for a hassle-free way to securely mount one, Prinsu has got you covered. Their Universal WaterPort Mount for most aluminum extrusion crossbars is designed to make your life easier and your outdoor experiences more enjoyable.

Note: This mount is only intended for use with the smaller DayTank, not the larger Weekender.

If you need a WaterPORT, Prinsu also sells them. Check price here.

The Mount

This mount is made from 3/16″ steel and powder-coated in a sleek black to match your roof rack. This guarantees strength and a seamless look for your setup. The straightforward design allows for effortless attachment and removal of your DayTank whenever you need it.

The DayTank holds 4 gallons of water and is in my opinion, a must-have for extended camping trips and day trips alike.

It comes with a spray nozzle, a 6ft hose, a 9-pattern spray nozzle, and a hose adapter for quick filling. Just hook it up to your garden hose, and boom—in seconds, it’s pressurized and ready to go. You can also easily top it off by using the big fill cap and a hand pump.

One of my favorite features is its super compact design, so I can easily tuck it away at home when it’s not in use.

Installation

Installing Prinsu WaterPORT Mount

Before installing, you’ll need to pick a spot to mount your tank. It can be mounted anywhere on top of your crossbars. From there, installation is straightforward and can be done in a few minutes.

You can either attach the tank to the mount before installing it onto your roof rack or just the mount first. We chose the latter option.

Tools Required

  • Power Drill or Ratcheting Wrench
  • 11mm socket
  • Standard 3/16th Allen Key

Step 1. Install Mount On Rack

Gather (4) bolts in total and insert (2) of them into one crossbar and the remaining (2) into the adjacent crossbar. There’s no need to detach the crossbars from the side rails, unlike other Prinsu accessories. Instead, utilize the openings on the crossbars to slide the bolts in.

Next, place your mount on top of the bolts.

Then, secure the mount to the crossbar with a washer and a nut using an 11mm socket.

Step 2. Secure WaterPort

Finally, install the tank to the mount.

We needed two people to do this step as it is tricky to simultaneously align the bolts to the back of the DayTank and secure them. Grab your washer and bolt, and install them through the mount and onto the back of the tank with a 3/16th Allen Key.

Final Thoughts

WaterPORT DayTank Attached To Prinsu Rack On 4Runner

I’m impressed with how well this mount is designed. I originally had my DayTank on a hitch mount, but that negatively impacted my departure angle. Plus, I use it for showering and cleaning dishes at camp, so I worried about it getting damaged on rough trails being mounted so low. This mount was a much better fit for my needs and has stayed put without any annoying rattling.

Word of caution, it may take some time to get used to the look of a tank protruding from your roof rack. You’ll also need to be cognizant of low overhangs as this adds a decent amount of overall height to your rig.

If you want something strong to hold your DayTank securely, though, this mount is the way to go.
